Christopher Staley

Assistant Professor

Chris received his Ph.D. in Environmental and Ecological Microbiology in the lab of Dr. Valerie J. (Jody) Harwood at the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL). In 2012, he joined the lab of Dr. Michael Sadowsky at the University of Minnesota using metagenomics-based approaches to characterize microbial communities in the Upper Mississippi River. In 2014, he began working with Dr. Alexander Khoruts and the Microbiota Therapeutics Program to characterize microbial responses using encapsulated fecal microbiota to treat recurrent Clostridium difficile infection. Dr. Staley joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery, in the Division of Basic and Translational Research in 2018. With a diverse skill set in microbial ecology, molecular biology, biostatistics, computational biology, and metagenomics-based approaches, the Staley lab's research focus is to investigate the microbial ecology of dysbioses in the intestinal microbiota.
